Taking care of your dress

Many brides can't wait to go shopping for their dress shortly after they become engaged. In fact, many brides often have their dress picked out and on order before the reception venue, ceremony site and DJ are chosen! It is that important.

It is equally important to take care of your purchase once you have it home from the dress shop. Here are some things to watch for when caring for one of the most important garment purchases you will ever make:

1. Make sure to ask your dress shop to have it cleaned (if needed) and pressed before you pick it up.
2. Keep it in the bag until the night before or the early morning of your wedding day.
3. Don't touch your dress if you have any kind of grease on your hands, that includes making sure not to moisturize your hands right before trying your dress on.
4. Place your dress in the bathroom while you are taking a shower to let the steam "press out" some of the wrinkles. If this does not work, don't iron it, but rather user a hand-held steamer and use a low steam temperature.
5. Make sure to hang your dress high enough so that the hem does not touch the floor. If it does, then place a clean, white towel underneath it.
6. Try not to eat while in your dress before your ceremony. If you do beware of foods with dyes or foods that could stain.
7. Contact a reliable cleaning company that specializes in cleaning and preserving wedding gowns to make sure that yours is preserved for many years to come after your special day.

With some common sense thinking and gentle care, your wedding dress will become a cherished heirloom to share with future generations.
