The 21 wedding planners from Holland left for home Wednesday morning. We had a great time while they were here and will be sorely missed as we all made a very positive connection.
I was humbled by their intelligence and enthusiasm as well as the way that they all got along. Many of them had never met each other before their trip to America, but along they all got. In fact, two went on to New York together. I envy their friendship with each other. I would be so lucky as to get a passing glance from another wedding planner in Iowa.
I have never understood why many wedding vendors in the same industry won't be friends with each other or even get together at least once a year to exchange ideas. There is more than enough business to go around and I would think that by establishing a network, if you were booked that weekend, you could refer the business to another professional. Yet we don't do this. Why?
I have learned a lot from the Holland Planners and look forward to visiting their country soon. There is much to be learned from other countries, their grace and style and openness, but then, I would be happy learning in my own hometown!
