I had an appointment with the Fort Des Moines Museum and Education Center yesterday. http://www.fortdesmoines.org/ This is a lovely place---why haven't I know about this venue?
According to the staff member, they just started promoting weddings last year. I would say that it is about time. This venue is absolutely perfect for smaller, intimate weddings. The indoors area is lovely and restored nicely, with beautiful hard wood floors and original fireplaces. The outside is breathtaking with a reflecting pool, sculpture and veranda area that would be perfect for cocktails.
An outdoor wedding would be spectacular at this location, although the backup plan would be a little dicey if the wedding was over 150, but well worth the risk-taking.
If you have not visited this museum, please do so. You won't be sorry.
