Tom, with Cheshire Moon Films sent us a beautiful wedding video that we are excited to share with you. Wedding Videography is an important part of the day. A photograph will capture a moment in time; your videographer will capture the entire day in sight and sound.
When polled after their weddings, over 58% of couples regretted not having a wedding video taken of their day. They stated that their day went by so fast and they missed many aspects that they would have liked to have seen.

We were visiting Iowa City today, finalizing some last minute things for the upcoming spring Bridal Event at the Iowa Memorial Union on the Iowa Campus. One of the vendors new to our show this year is Dardis Clothiers. We are very excited to be working with them and hope that you will come out to visit their wonderful men's suits and clothing. Helping your man look daper on your wedding day is important!

This lovely wedding comes to us from SR Photography. The Ceremony was at Capital Hill Lutheran Church, with the Reception at Toad Valley Golf Course in Pleasant Hill. Toad Valley is a beautiful space for an event since it has one wall that is nothing but huge windows overlooking rolling hills, ponds and green courses.
Stan wrote, "This couple is truly truly in love!"

What caught our attention was the way Stan makes some of the pictures look like they are out of a vintage magazine. The Bride is absolutely gorgeous! Great job, Stan; you can take our picture anytime!

We are completely excited to share today's wedding with you since it happens to be my son and his adorable new wife! As you know, their wedding was in Arizona this past December. I was so excited because not only was my son getting married, but I was gaining a beautiful and gracious daughter!

For weeks, the emails flew back and forth figuring out what to do; what colors did they want, what are their favorite flowers, where to go for the Ceremony and the Reception, etc. I might plan weddings for a living in Iowa and surrounding states, but in Arizona? I had never even been to the state let alone know anyone there except my son and he hadn't been there long enough to plan any events. Luckily for me, there is a time difference, so when I was calling at night here, they were still doing business there. It all came together; we found the perfect venue that worked miracles for us, the flowers came from a wholesaler in Phoenix, the delicious cake from a local bakery, and anything else that we needed was found with a push of the button - what would I do without the Internet?

So off we went right after our last Holiday Bridal Show, with our truck packed to the ceiling. Since the wedding was our gift to my son and his soon-to-be-bride, I had to plan and pack very carefully. I had to plan out eveything; knowing that I would need florist tape, vases, stands, linens, decor and everything in between that puts it all together. Then there was the "I don't want to bring it all home," so knowing that all the decor was going to be left with the newlyweds for their new home together, meant that I had to plan very carefully and think of every contingent. Did I forget something? Oh yeah - that's why Walmart was invented - right?

Let me tell you here and now, hotel rooms are not the best places in the world to do big rose bouquets, vases and what not, but where there is a will, there is a way. My poor guy had to walk around buckets and buckets of flowers for three days. Ever try washing and drying loads and loads of event linens at a laundromat on a Sunday? Oh....bad, bad!!! Don't let me fool you though, we had a great experience and would do it all over again; it was worth every minute!

Congratulations Barri and Christina! We are so proud of the two of you!

DIY Projects | Spring Fun

Do it yourself projects for your wedding event can be simple and fun. Keep in mind that just because they may not take much work, their impact can still pack quite a punch and keep your guests wondering, "How did she do that?"

We couldn't help but share these two fun projects for a spring event. If they are too simple for your wedding, consider massing them for more of an impact. Thinking outside the box keeps your creative juices flowing and your wedding budget in tact!

We love this fun idea. In addition to filling vases with colorful buttons, you could add buttons to Escort Cards, make them into Napkin Rings, add them in your bouquet and anywhere else you need a little burst of color.

We totally love the idea of flowers under glass. These are simple, I agree, but if you massed them down the center of a table with candles on top of the glasses and beside, this easy idea becomes very sophisticated and chic.

We had the honor of helping with a wonderful outdoor wedding that was set in beautiful Iowa Falls, Iowa at the Eagle City Winery. This is an intimate venue that backs up to trees, rolling hills, a petting farm and more.
Bonita and Lynn chose green and brown as their color palette. It worked very well for their wedding, coinciding with the grapevines and rustic buildings on the property. The bride was very hands on doing many of the decor projects herself and enlisting the help of friends and family. It gave their wedding a very personal and stylish feel. Of course, we love sharing our weddings with you, so we were over the moon when their photographer sent us pictures of the day. To be honest, we had a hard time deciding which pictures to post; we would share them all and love them all, but the post would be much too long!
Catchlight Imaging is an amazing photography duo. Paul and Nicole Kestal understand how to use light to create unforgettable moments. Their motto, " Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Real Weddings | Emma and Chad

Last fall, we had the privilege of working with a wonderful couple; Chad and Emma. Their wedding was set in a beautiful vineyard at that perfect time of the day when the sun just starts to be romantic.

Samantha Bender was the photographer that shot this gorgeous wedding. As you can see, her work is suburb and it was a joy working with her. Samantha is not one of those photographers that are "in your face," but rather works with the moment, capturing images and manipulating the light to give everything that she shoots that perfect artistic edge. To be honest, you hardly know that she is there, and then this perfect picture comes from what you thought was a lost moment. She truly is an artist.

Chad and Emma opted for a romantic evening dinner, so since their Ceremony and Reception were at the same place, they decided to do a later Ceremony outside. The vineyard has a rock patio that was perfect for the bridal party while their guests were seated around them. I love doing Ceremonies in the semi-round as it lets the couple be surrounded by the love of family and guests.

Their Reception was held in a tent on the property. We added drapery, lights and Chinese Lanterns to decorate the ceiling as well as beautiful linens and decor. You would never know that we had to weight the tent down with big boulders found on the property because of the blowing wind. I don't know how many times we replaced tablecloths and chargers!

Congratulations Emma and Chad! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day.

We added elements of silver and black to a purple color scheme. The flower balls that graced the top of the centerpiece vases, also graced the top of the Ceremony stone pillars, giving color and texture to both spaces, yet carrying a central theme throughout.

Emma had menus and thank you cards made that gave their guests a glimpse of what was to come. It was a fun evening and one that we were honored to be a part of.

The Week in Review....

I cannot believe that the week is almost over! Where does time go? I guess I must be staying busy if time flies by. I read once that if you do something that you love, you will never work a day in your life. That is true. I have been fortunate to always love my jobs, whether it was in retail, banking, finances, or landscaping and now full time in the Event Industry. I wake each morning looking forward to what the day will bring and knowing that I am making a difference in couple's lives. I am blessed!

We are staying warm despite the weather outside and thought that we would share a beautiful wedding with you to warm you up as well! We had the honor of helping Natalie and Andrew with not only planning the wedding, but with their flowers and decor as well. As you can see, we had a lot of fun.

Natalie was a gorgeous bride! Her colors - vivid shades of orange and pink - were tempered with black; a perfect combination for this couple. Their wedding Ceremony was held at the Church of the Land at Living History Farms. This is an historic working complex of Farms and Museums in the heart of Des Moines. The church is beautiful, yet simple and has a serene feel to it when you walk in - like an unspoiled gem in the middle of the busy hustle of life. Many brides choose this church for the very fact that you don't need to add a lot of decorating to have an elegant service.

Congratulations Natalie and Andrew! Thank you for letting us share your day.

The Reception was held at the Pinnacle Club at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny. This is a great space for an intimate event. The room is divided so we were able to keep the band under wraps until the first dance, a surprise for their guests. The Groom's cake, an out-of-this-world cheesecake, baked by a family friend, was the hit of the evening.

Typically, a New Year's Eve wedding in Iowa will find freezing weather, snow on the ground and guests bundled up in layers of clothing, but with the temperatures in the 50's, 2011 ushered in a surprisingly great time to take wedding pictures! Who knew?

Carrie from Geno Photography was one of the lucky photographers to be able to work on this day and caught some amazing pictures of this fun couple. Carrie is one of those photographers that we love because of her ability to work with the light, shadows and catch those great shots that we all love to view. "The couple, Sam & Bryana, were great to work with. They were married in the newly built Congregational church north of Cedar Rapids. It had a huge window on the back wall, that allowed in some beautiful light. We took most of the formal portraits there. After the ceremony, we got some gorgeous shots of the couple in front of the sunset. Despite being December 31st, it was 50* outside. So much for the snow Bryana had hoped for, but at least she didn't freeze when we took the outdoor photos. Their reception was held at the Cedar Rapids Marriott, where we set up a photo booth for added fun for the guests."

We have some pictures to share with you from a wedding we helped with at the ZaGaZig Shriner's Temple in Altoona last year. This is a very unique space - the ceiling peaks to a high point in the reception room, with the entire room being circled by a hallway that connects each door.
The details were very important to this bride. She loved the color pink, so all hues were incorporated to create a beautiful floral palatte. Crystals, linens, mercury glass and more were all selected for their textures and contribution to the overall wedding look.
We enjoyed our time there and hope to be back soon!

Leslie Cowger from Free Bird Photography sent us a lovely wedding that we are thrilled to share with you. The wedding was located in Muscatine, IA at the Wildcat Den State Park. We are so in love with the Bride's boots and bouquet!

"Whitney and Andrew had a beautiful country wedding. Their groomsmen wore white button up shirts with vests made by the Groom's mother. They completed the look with a cowboy hat and boots. The Bridesmaids wore brown cotton knee length dresses with cowboy boots and the Bride wore a beautiful dress from Hazel Green Bridal. It had great details of lace and beading that made the bride shimmer in the sunlight. Their guests signed a beautiful matted photo from an engagement session that was in a wooden frame.
As the ceremony started, the Bride and her father made their entrance on a breathtaking horse and carriage. Whitney and Andrew poured sand as their symbol of unity and both did not stop smiling through out the entire ceremony. After the ceremony they were taken away on the horse and carriage. They greeted their guests after photos concluded."

We always look forward to the beginning of the year to see what Pantone color will reign, so when this popular company announced that their 2012 Pantone Color of the year is Tangerine Tango, we were ubber excited.

This vibrant, citrus shade is such a beautiful pop of color, that adding it to events, clothing, home furnishings or anything else pretty much guarantees a success. We love these pictures for inspiration.....

This light celery color and Tangerine are so fresh together. I think that this would translate beautifully for a wedding.

I am excited to share some wonderful pictures that my workers took of one our weddings in Iowa City. We are in eastern Iowa quite a bit and love the venues, vendors and clients that we work with in this part of the state. This particular wedding was a labor of love and it shows. My crew is amazing!

We had so much fun styling this wedding; every detail counted!

Ubetts Rental and Design funished the furniture, linens and rentals, cynwhd b designs provided the flowers and Special Events was in charge of the planning, design direction and room flow. Peach and Gray is such a beautiful color combination, how can you go wrong?

I am a detail person. No detail is too small when dealing when weddings and events. I have learned that the magic is in the details and when they are done correctly, make a huge lasting and memorable impact.

I was visiting various blogs the other day and noticed that one such wedding on the Austin Wedding Blog had pictures from a photographer that must love detail shots. Instead of the obligitory posed shots, Julie Whilhite Photography is taking pictures of real life and the expressions of the day. I was especially taken with the picture of the musician watching the Ceremony; you can almost hear the spoken promises from the couple in this beautiful outdoor wedding. The Salisbury House is a beautiful home in Des Moines registered on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built by cosmetic magnate, Carl Weeks in 1928, modeled after the King's House in Salisbury, England. It is the perfect place for romantic weddings. Whether you choose the exquisite gardens outdoors, the cobblestone patio near the carriage house, or the richly appointed indoor rooms, your wedding is sure to be a romantic event.

One such couple's wedding was captured beautifully by Taylor Photography, a Premier vendor with The Preferred Wedding Book. Randy has a unique knack of capturing the light and using it to his advantage for perfect-picture memories. Of course, with the day turning out to be the perfect Iowa day with plenty of sunshine helps! The children in this wedding stole my heart with their adorable outfits and facial expressions.

I am always looking for inspiration to use for my own events as well as expanding my knowledge with what is out there in the "Wedding World." One can get tunnel vision if left to their own devices at times. I have always said that I never wanted to be typecast into one particular type of style. It is important to me to know and do different things all the time. There is so much out there, that the more I know, the more I want to know and do!

There is an incredible florist in the Washington DC area whose business name is The Full Bouquet . I have been following her work of late and confess that I am a true fan. Her work is incredible! I am jealous - but in a totally good way! I can't seem to get enough and am so excited to share some of her fabulous creations with you.

The colors of this featured wedding make me long for Spring. The flowers and textures are beautiful. The outdoor setting is perfect. The flower girls were the couple's great nieces and look so sweet in their outfits. The Escort card table is perfect for a romantic/vintage vibe and since we are starting to offer vintage plates this year in our rentals, the place settings couldn't be more perfect.

It is a New Year and time to get ready for our first spring Preferred Bridal Show at the Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City on the Iowa University Campus. We are excited as we prepare for our fourth [or is it 5 years already?] annual affair. We started with a small group of great vendors and have grown into a large show that showcases some of Iowa's best preferred service providers.

We add in elegant decorating, live music, food samples, prizes every hour, grand prizes, idea books collected from all over the world, plus fashions and you have the elements for a relaxing and wedding-planning filled afternoon. Want more information? Visit here....

Wedding Inspirations | Unconventional Wedding Cake?

I have a couple who does not want a traditional wedding cake. They have asked me for some suggestions for something to serve their guests that is a little out of the ordinary. I am happy to oblige! Here are a few ideas that may be not only fun for your guests, but shows off a little more of a couple's personal spirit.

A "Cake" made from wheels of cheese might be fun. I would serve it with in-season fruit for a complete dessert.

If you can't pass a Krispy Kreme store without stopping, then a doughnut wedding cake might be the perfect alternative for you.

A Dessert Buffet may be the perfect alternative to a cake fix. There is certainly no shortage of sugar and in addition to a mutitude of dessert ideas, you could color coordinate it to your wedding colors. This would also be a great way to incorporate beloved family favorites. Ask your Mother, Grandmother or favorite Aunt to make her famous dessert, showcase them on heirloom or vintage plates and don't forget food tags to let your guests know the story behind each goodie. This is a great way to include your family in the wedding happenings as well as give your guests great topics of conversation.

Our Real Wedding today comes courtesy of Style Me Pretty. The details were just too sweet not to share with you. From the place cards to the flowers to the very restaurant where the reception took place, every detail was lovingly attended to. The best part, the entire wedding was held at just $7,000!
