Budgets and wedding planning

Many wedding couples have stars in their eyes when they start planning their wedding. They would like this transportation, this dress, this meal, this music and that look. But when they start to add everything up, their budget seems non-existent. "How can we have the wedding we want with the money that we have?" is a common question I hear again and again.

Unfortunately commercialism and shows like Platinum Weddings make it virtually hard for couples to understand that those types of weddings are not typical nor attainable for most of the population. However, it is possible to stretch your wedding dollars into an event that you can be proud to share with friends and family and one that reflects your style and personalities.

The first thing to do is to sit down and work out a sensible budget. Leave the credit cards out of the equation and think common sense strategies for maximizing your wedding dollars. If you are paying $500 for the stretch Hummer for 20 minutes for 8 people, wouldn't that money be better spent towards a a duel entree with a more elegant caterer for 200 people?

Decide what is important and allocate your money accordingly. Smart choices made now makes for a perfect event on your special day.
