A recent wedding that I had the privilege of attending got me to thinking about the differences in people and their reactions to certain events.
Right before the reception was to begin, a gas line was cut and we had to call out a repair man to fix it. It was a harrowing 35 minutes, but the mother of the bride was completely in control of the situation as she graciously welcomed each and every guest to her daughter's wedding. She was effortless and completely flawless in her ability to handle her emotions in light of the appending disaster. It turned out to be fine and dinner was a great success, but I was witness to a very wonderful MOB that taught me a few lessons about grace.
Another MOB might not have been so gracious and would have even been down right upset to the point of yelling and crying (yes, I have seen this!). It struck me that even though all people are different and handle things in different ways, the bottom line is that we all have choices to make in how we want to handle these tough situations. This mother chose a high road and made sure that all of the guests invited to her daughter's wedding were welcomed and loved. They had her attention and brilliant smile as well as a hug and a handshake. They knew of no crisis and only thought beautiful things about the entire event.
My hat is off to those who not only understand the meaning of grace, but practice it as well!
