I have had quite a few brides and associates tell me about horror stories with vendors lately. Some of them really hurt the heart when I know that a bride is purposely getting the thumbscrews put to her; like the missive I received recently from a very trusted colleague. They let me know about a recent bride that was using a particular vendor for some wedding products. The bride was questioning some rather high fees and was trying to find ways to reduce them. In an email that was sent out internally but not intended for the bride (she received it by mistake), the company basically told the sales associate to "screw her over" with misc. costs not even related to the original product!
Wow! This one is a bit rough to take in. You would hope that a company that has been in business for years and years would not be prone to this kind of behavior towards a client and especially a bride, whose day is so very important to her, but alas, it happens. What is a client to do?
Then there is the bride who emails about a vendor who she claims had done a terrible job at her wedding and she wants everyone to know not to use this vendor. A. I can see her point and why she is disappointed. B. I called the vendor to get their side and the end result was not good for anyone.
Weddings are very special days. They are one day out of the rest of your life, where you hope that everything goes according to plan. We plan for perfection to be achieved, but we hope for the best. Wedding vendors know (the good ones anyway) that this is not the day to mess up. We check and then double check until we are sure that we have it right. At the end of the day, we have done our best and hope that it shines through. This is the case for 97% of the wedding vendors that I have come across. Then there are the other 3%.
Isn't it a shame when 3% can "screw" it up for the remaining 97%?
