Hosting alcohol at your wedding can become costly if you don't pull in the reigns from the very beginning. Inviting people to your wedding, and then asking them to open their wallets is very tacky, so if the budget is slim, then just host what you can afford. Here are some cost-saving tips for serving alcohol at a wedding:
1. Forgo the full bar, providing only beer, wine, soda and maybe a signature drink.
2. Find a venue site that will allow you to bring in your own alcohol.
3. Avoid serving "designer label" liquor.
4. Have the drinks butler-passed. When your guests are served their drinks, they are not to likely to drink as fast or as much since they cannot go up to the bar every time their glass is empty.
5. Get married on a Sunday. People will not tend to drink as much if they know that they have to work the next day.
6. Know your crowd. You don't have to have the bar open the entire reception. Serve wine with the meal and then have an open bar only during the dance portion of the reception. For every hour that the bar is open, it can add upwards of $1000 to your budget (depending on the number of guests).
Remember that your wedding is just that--your wedding. Host what you can afford and your guests won't miss what is not offered.
