I am a Romantic

I have been called an incurable Romantic and it is a hat that I am proud to wear. I try to see the good in everything, an optimistic person that loves the glitz and the glam, the feelings and the sense of mystery to a relationship and an event. Maybe that is why I am best suited for my career.

But along with the romantic side, I also have to have a sense of realty and the business side of life. It is a fine balance. So when I receive a criticism like the following one, I not only have to be thick-skinned, but I also have to wonder, "Why are we settling? Where is the romance of the event?"

" Are you really that bored when you attend a wedding? It sounds like you're more focused on the centerpiece than you are on the people sitting at the table with you and celebrating the occasion itself. I don't remember any of the centerpieces from weddings I've ever attended - but I appreciated being able to see the folks sitting across from me while we caught up or got to know one another.Perhaps your question would be easier to understand if it didn't sound so bitter and unprofessional. "

I agree that appreciating your table mates at a reception is very important, after all, that is why we invite people to an event--to connect and share--but isn't it much nicer to be able to look across the table at them through candlelight and romance, than a forgettable centerpiece (I don't remember any of the centerpieces from weddings I've ever attended )? You will probably spend the same amount of money, so why not take the time to attend to the details so that your tablescape is memorable--your wedding story told, stored and carried in your guests' hearts? Now, in all fairness, with so many people getting married, it is highly likely that many weddings will blur into another; this is all the more reason to make yours stand out!

Life can be very tough on a newly married couple. With all types of adjustments, daily life changes and work-related issues, every couple deserves one perfect day that they can recall with the fondest of memories, recapture the romance of the day to replay over and over in their minds and hearts--your guests will appreciate this as well. So why leave anything undone?
