Please no more fish bowls!

I am in front of hundreds of brides throughout the year. They have pictures of their dresses, bouquets, bridesmaids' clothing and many other photos of what they have planned for their special day. But when it comes to pictures of their centerpieces, it might as well be from any previous wedding; a glass cylinder or fish bowl with a floating candle surrounded by three other candles. I am asking you to be honest here---do you really like that?????? And now I am really being honest, please don't subject me to looking at that all night at your wedding, I have already seen it several times in many colors.

What does it tell me about your wedding style? Your story as a couple? Your time and effort that you have put into this event for my enjoyment? Keep in mind that if you have invited me to your event, then I would at least like to see some of YOU in the event, and not the bride before you or the bride before that bride and so on.

I realize that many of you are on a very tight budget when it comes to decorating your wedding reception. But what I don't understand is that wedding couples will spend hundreds of dollars on a limousine for 12 - 14 people for less than one hour while 350 guests are looking at each other over a floating candle in a fishbowl for over 5 hours. It really doesn't makes sense to me.

Now, I am not advocating huge lavish arrangements that cost hundreds of dollars, just something that tells me as a guest that you took the time to think of a unique and absolutely beautiful tablescape that gives me a glimpse into your thoughtfulness and wedding style as a couple. It really takes no more money to arrange pillars of romantic candles in the middle of the table than to float that lonely little hockey-puck floating candle.
