Opening the Envelope

If you sent me an invitation to your wedding, what would I see when I opened the envelope? Would I see an elegantly engraved invitation inviting me to a grand ballroom affair; a chic card letting me know about a flirty little soiree in an upscale restaurant; or a whimsical note letting me know that a backyard gathering is more your style?
Your invitation is the first glimpse of your event that I see. It tells me several things all in the confines of a piece of paper:
1. Your style: the very font that you use on your stationery tells your guests of what type of affair they will be going to--elegant, whimsical, casual, modern, or bold. Each font style has its own story to tell so choose wisely.

2. The invitation tells me who, what, when and where. Make each line count and precise. The "who" lines let me know who is getting married, who are the hosts and if parents are involved. The "what" tells me exactly the type of event I am going to; therefore, gives me a little idea of the dress code that I should adhere to. The "when" lets me know what date to circle on my calendar and the times; the "where" is the address that I will put in my GPS tracker, not to mention, again, giving me a glimpse of the type of attire that I will show up in.

3. Your invitation will also let me know if I am to eat before I go to your event or will be served a meal. It will tell me if I should bring my dancing shoes, or just come to relax. That one piece of paper will give me a glimpse of your color scheme, style of wedding, and if my children are invited (by inclusion or absence of their names on the envelope).
Your event invitation is very important. Great thought and time should go into what your guests see and feel when they open the envelope. And while we are on the subject on envelopes--no labels, please. Even if your wedding is in the middle of a wildflower field, a hand written or beautifully scripted envelope is still the face of a gracious and well-mannered couple.
All of this from one piece of paper!
