Real Weddings | Caitie and Chris

You will always hear me tell couples to make their wedding event as individual as they are whether it be in the form of colors, patterns, a hobby or passions.   I am never a fan of "cookie-cutter" weddings; events that are void of any individuality that shares anything about the couple with their guests.  Don't get me wrong; any wedding celebration is wonderful, but an event that says something special about the day, the couple and their love together is always elegant and fun to attend.
One wedding this summer that we were honored to be a part of  could never be classified as boring or run of the mill.  When I met with Caitie and Chris and learned of their love for the childhood classic: Alice in Wonderland by the beloved author, Lewis Carroll, I knew that I was going to be a part of something great. When planning their wedding, there was no question that this storybook favorite would be part of the theme of the day.

To bring more authenticity to their theme, Caitie was enthusiastic in her quest for Alice In Wonderland books.  She collected them from Ebay, bookstores; wherever she could find them.  Between the two of us, we had enough books for each guest table.
We added blue garden roses, a smattering of red spotted roses, pictures of the original Alice in Wonderland story, topsy turvy teacups and teapots with moss, blue orchids and red and white spotted mushrooms.  We added a variety of patterns in blue and black with the men's socks and pocket squares for the Ceremony.  We also added vintage table linens with more black and blue patterns for the Reception to continue the theme and continuity throughtout the day.  With an historic theater for their Ceremony venue, their wedding day was uniquely perfect for the two of them.

Caitie was specific that she wanted her bouquet made from blue orchids tied with a stunning black and white ribbon.  Her choice was perfect!
We used more orchids at the Social Hour surrounding the Escort Cards, in the teacups and teapots at the Reception and in the mother's wrist corsages.  I have to admit, that besides being unique, the flowers were stunning and really made a difference in the overall look of the theme.

Choosing an historic theater for their Ceremony was a perfect touch.  Not only did it carry the theme through, but it also provided a stunning backdrop for the couple.  The darkened room made sure that all focus was on the stage and the beautiful couple speaking their vows of love.
We kept the decor to a minimum, preferring to focus on the aisle and the stage with special lighting.  Perfection and Dramatic all at the same time!

By bringing in vintage items in their color palate, the reception was fun and interesting for their guests.  Instead of the plain old guest book table, they used a vintage painted dresser and had their guests sign a picture that will hang in their home as a wonderful piece of art.
Even the Escort Cards and Table Numbers were in a style that went along with the Theater /Alice In Wonderland theme.  By using the same font and styling, this added continuity that made their wedding look and feel expensive and well thought out.  Guests had fun noticing all of the details, right down to the blue colored candy in Alice In Wonderland bowls that the bride collected.

Their favors were these adorable teapots with a tea bag inside.  How fun are these?

Awesome, thanks for posting, Cynthia! (One thing: my husband's name is Chris, though, not Matt! I think you had pegged him as a Matt for some reason.) :)
