Frozen Photo Shoot with Geno Photography

Recently I headed to Dubuque for a "Frozen" inspired bridal session. I may or may not be in love with the movie "Frozen." I've loved the idea of a snowy bridal session and after watching it for the first time, I knew I had to do it.

Unfortunately, this winter was cold. Ok, sounds obvious right? But seriously, this winter has been COLD. Every time we would try to get the session scheduled the weather was horrible; either -20 wind chills or snow falling like crazy with travel advisories. So, once we'd given up the thought of having snow for the session and resigned ourselves to shooting in late March, what happens? We get snow the night before the shoot! It was meant to be! I'm probably the only person in all of Iowa who was doing a happy dance when I saw flakes fluttering down from the sky. Of course it wasn't much snow, but we were able to find some great spots along the back roads of Dubuque where there was still plenty of snow on the hillside.

The dress for the session was a lucky find at a thrift store. I saw it and fell in love. Of course, it's not the warmest of dresses, so I created a fur wrap and some detached lace sleeves to go with it. I love crafting and sewing, so making the additions to the dress was a lot of fun. The cape train we used is actually from my own wedding dress which I designed and made a little over a decade ago. Did I mention I like to sew? I had the hopes that I'd be able to create a broach bouquet, but I had little success with that crafting endeavor. Finding enough broaches that had the look I was going for was a trickier task than I had planned. I think the session was beautiful even without a bouquet.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow....

I am in Texas for the moment, but head home today. Everyone back home has been telling me that I am headed in for one whale of a snow storm. I say, Yipeeee! ( I think I am being silly here and not truth-telling.) Anyway, I figure that I might as well make the best of the snow, so how about some winter wonderland ideas for a December wedding?
