Wedding Dress Search

Brides Beware!

Most Iowa area wedding dress boutiques are honest, hard-working owners who really want to help you find the perfect wedding dress for your special day. They work hard to find the best designers, find great seamstresses to help nip and tuck that dream dress, and most will even press and store your gown until the big day. However, there are some stores that don't have your best interest in mind and only see you as a dollar sign when you walk through their doors.
Here are some signs that you should walk out of a boutique before you even begin your dress search:

1. They should greet you with a smile and be genuinely glad to see you. If they barely give you a nod or appear aloof, walk back out. It isn't worth it--trust me.

2. If they don't ask you what you are looking for, ask if they can they help you, want to show your dresses, know your style, etc and get to know a little about you, chances are your hunt at that particular store won't be a good one. Save your time--keep looking.

3. If the boutique is unkempt, smells peculiar, appears messy and unclean then this is definitely not a good sign--turn around and walk out.

4. If they don't appear to be interested, ask your name, your address or have you fill out a card of more information about you, then they don't care, and that is never a good sign as well.

5. Beware of second-hand shops and shops that rent gowns. If you do decide to purchase a gown from a store that deals in less than first quality, check the gown over very carefully--the beading, the seams, are the labels cut out, is the saleslady pushy or in a hurry to make a sale--because many times you cannot return the garment as most second-hand stores feature an as-is sale.

Most bridal gown shops thrive on your business. They not only want your gown sale, but also your bridesmaids, flowers girl, tuxedos, accessories, mother's gowns, etc. They also know that if you think their service is good, you will refer your friends, so it is in their best interest to help you find the gown of your dreams. They also need to act genuine and suggest looks that are flattering on you, not just get you into anything to get a sale. After all, if you look good, so do they!

In short, you deserve to be treated like a special person, especially since you will be spending hundreds of dollars on your gown and all the accessories that will accompany it!
