Vendor Spotlight | SR Photography - Ashley & Jerin

We love working with Stan from SR Photography! When he sent us photos of a recent wedding he shot this month, we couldn't wait to share the photos with you! Stan's photos are breathtaking! Stan said "Ashley and Jerin were married in a beautiful setting and ceremony on June 1 at the Church of the Land at Living History Farms and the reception was at Hilton Garden Inn in Johnston." Congratulations Ashley & Jerin!

Vendor Spotlight | Geno Photography

This wedding from Geno Photography can only be described as absolutely gorgeous.  From the bride's intricate hair and cascading bouquet, to the umbrella and rainbow shots [check out that last photo - breathtaking!].  And, we have to completely agree with Carrie about doing a 'first look' between the bride and groom before their ceremony!

From Carrie Geno -

"In the middle of June, I photographed Evan and Aleasha's wedding.  It was a gorgeous day. We began at the Coralville Marriott where Aleasha and her bridesmaids were getting ready for the day.  Once she was ready, she met Evan downstairs for their first look.  I have said before and it is still true today, I love doing a first look between the bride and groom.  I know tradition denotes that the bride and groom should not see each other before the wedding ceremony, but a first look is something so special.  It allows the bride and groom time with just each other before the day is in full swing.  They get the surprise of seeing each other for the first time in their wedding finest and gives them time to talk, share kisses, and just be with each other.  This is something that is not replicated by seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony.  At the ceremony, you have 100+ guests watching you and a ceremony to participate in.  There is little room for the hugs and whispered words of live that a first look allows.

"But I digress, back to Aleasha's day.  After their first look, we took a few moments around the Marriott before heading to their ceremony and reception, South Slope in North Liberty.  Their ceremony was beautiful, facing the pond.  After the ceremony, we finished our formal session of family and the bridal party.  Just as we finished with the bridal party, the looming clouds began to let down their rain.  Thankfully, the bride, groom, and everyone else was able to get inside before the downpour.  Their reception was beautiful, filled with wonderful toasts, dancing, and the couple being surrounded by family and friends.  After the special dances, we ventured to sneak a peak at the sunset and it was beyond perfect.  To the east, a rainbow crossed the entire sky (the first I've seen at any wedding I've had the pleasure to photograph).  To the west, the clouds were beautifully illuminated by the evening sun.  I am so glad Evan and Aleasha were willing to brave the soggy ground for a few more photos before the sun set."

Congratulations to Evan and Aleasha!

Real Weddings | Geno Photography

Jason and Lauren were married on May 28th.  Iowa spring weather has been dicey at best, but their day was so beautiful, that a few cloudy skies couldn't put a damper on anyone's spirits.  Carrie from Geno Photography was on hand to capture the day in the romantic spirit that she does so well.

Their ceremony  was held at the beautiful St. Mary's Church in Riverside.  This church is by far very beautiful and serene.  In fact, we have a wedding there next week that I will be anxious to share with you.

The church has so many beautiful nooks and crannies to get those great, one of kind pictures.  Carrie says that it is always a joy to photograph weddings at St. Mary's.
After the ceremony, they headed to Iowa City for more photos at Kinnick and the Old Capital.

Their reception was at the Holiday Inn iin Coralville and if they could have found another inch on the dance floor, they would have invited more people to dance!  There was non-stop dancing which is always a good indication that your guests are having a good time.

Congratulations Jason and Lauren!

Making up for lost time

I have some making up to do!  This is what happend when I have more to do in less time...something gets left behind and unfortunately, it got to be the blogging.  I am sorry!  I vow to try to do better.

Here is a sneak peak from a wedding we did this past weekend at the Celebration Barn in Solon, IA.  Dick Schwab is the owner and what a sweetheart to work with!  Love him!!
The "Celebration Barn" is 100 feet in diameter and 50 feet tall to the top of the cupola. The exterior is round, made of limestone cut from quarries in Anamosa and Stone City. Inside, celebrants will see 24 straight walls along the circumference. The lumber is almost all recycled, as are the paving bricks that line walkways connecting some of the barns and that encircle the big barn.   The nearby amphitheatre, featuring a labyrinth patterned after one at Chartres Cathedral in France.  Here is a link to a video of this wonderful piece of American beauty:  http://youtu.be/RGqDXIWkhWE

I was honored to work with Laura Widness from Ruby Shoes PhotographyLaura was completely the professional, yet not afraid to get those one of a kind shots that we all love to see.   Here is a sneak peak at what is coming.....
Isn't this great?  Not many brides have access to an antique fainting couch that lives with the family.  I promise that more goodies are coming!
