Working with Talent

July 17 | Talented Iowa Vendors | by Cynthia

We are always amazed by the wonderful talent there is in the wedding world.
One such vendor that we adore happens to be a catering company from the western border in Council Bluffs.   Their name might by Hy-Vee but the talent is huge and the food absolutely delish!

This event was a wedding at the Bella Terre Vineyard in Glenwood, Iowa on Sunday, June 22nd.  It was a 2:30 ceremony with a 4:00 serving time.  We served an exquisite hor d'oeuvres menu of the following:  Roasted Grape Bruschetta, Caprese Salad Skewers, Roasted Red Pepper Hummus with Pita Chips, Bacon Wrapped Dates stuffed with Borsin Cheese, and a Creamy Brie Cheese drizzled with honey and pistachios and served with apple slices.   We also had a grape and cubed cheese plate  (sartori glarus rasp tart bellabitano, a mild cheddar, and Cotswold double Gloucester with onion and chive as a centerpiece of each guests table.
In addition we served a kids menu of Celery with Peanut Butter, Orange wedges, Goldfish, and Cubed Co-Jack Cheese.
It was definitely a different menu that what we are used to for a wedding.  We had more than one comment from the guests about their surprise that this came from Hy-Vee.

What are we up to this week?

As a wedding planner and event decorator, we are taught to embrace change, look for the next trend, invent new things and "go with the flow," but when your beloved computer of 8 years takes a dive for the worst, change is NOT good!  I loved my old computer.  It was a Toshiba that has served me well, was easy to navigate and made my life so much easier.
Now that I have a new computer, the learning curve is up and time that I should spend doing proposals are spent playing "where did the documents hide?"  Oh well, I have a "can-do" spirit and will master this tech machine with the hand of an expert knowing that I will overcome.

Anyone else out there wondering if upgrading our tech devices is always a better choice?

The 2014 wedding season is fast approaching for us.  Normally, we try to keep the first three months open for Bridal Shows, website maintenance and getting the warehouse ready for the new year. This year, the season has started a little early, so I went back into some archived pictures from a few years ago for some inspiration and came across this table that I did oh so many years ago.  It still makes me yearn for those brides that love a touch of the modern with a bit of the eclectic boho thrown in for fun.

We are headed to Council Bluffs this Sunday for the Preferred Bridal ShowBayliss Park Hall is an historic building in the heart of this beautiful downtown district. We would love to have you join us! With our corporate sponsor - Scratch Cupcakery - we will be showcasing some beautiful new furniture pieces from Vintage Love, Rentals and annessi in conjunction with their delicious little morsels of love.   You really want to attend, if just to try a bite of these mini cakes piled high with frosting heaven!

What are we doing this week?

We finished our last Bridal Show yesterday in the snowstorm!  Yes, we got snowed out of Council Bluffs yesterday and we had to send everyone home early.  Not typical weather for Iowa, so not a very fun time of driving.  Some of our vendors did not make it home without some mishaps along the way, so a special measure of love goes out to them!

We decided to try again in the spring for our Council Bluffs Preferred Bridal Show and chose March 2nd as our target date.  Hopefully the weather will agree and treat us much better than yesterday!  Whatever the outcome, we made some great new friends and look forward to another time together!

The World Food Prize is hosting an Bridal Open House this Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. We are looking forward to being in this gorgeous building again.  We helped with a wedding there earlier this year and loved the building, the staff, the entire day for that matter!   Our companies will be present with a fun display, so stop by to say hi!  We might have some great things to share with brides and grooms to be!

You must have permission to use the photos that you submit, so if you are a photographer or bride wanting to submit your wedding, you already have that part covered!  Not sure on what to say?  No worries, we can help you narrow down your thoughts and put pen to paper.

We are boxing up Christmas decor for needy families, so if you have any decor that you would like to donate, let us know. It is certainly the season to remember that we have much and for those that have, we should give to those that are in need. Giving done from a grateful and pure heart is true love.  The Christmas season isn't always about, "how much can I buy," but should be about, "What can I do for others?"

Hugs - Cynthia

Our last Bridal Show of the Season!

Our last Bridal Show of the season finds us in Council Bluffs this coming Sunday from Noon - 3:00 pm. Going West will be a lot of fun since we are holding this show in the gorgeous Bayliss Park Hall, right in the heart of downtown Council Bluffs.

Bayliss is multi-leved to give couples choices when planning their weddings.  Holding a ceremony in front of the downstairs fireplace would be romantic and dreamy while an upstairs Reception and Dancing would be the perfect end to a fabulous event.
Come visit the vintage gang as we transform cupcakes into a beautiful dessert buffet, give you some great table ideas and visit with you about your rental needs.

Fashion, food and lots of prize give-aways!  We would love to have you join us!
