Musical Weddings
As humans, we have marvelous senses - Sight, Smell, Touch, Feel and Sound. These are all the feelings that we want to engage during a wedding. The more senses that you include, the more involved and vested your guests will be in your event and the more that they are a part of the day, the more memories they will make.
One of those wonderful senses is the gift of sound. This should never be taken for granted at a wedding. Greeting your guests with beautiful music starts your event on a perfect note; then there is music to watch your attendants walk down the aisle to, music for a grand Bridal Entrance, a soothing, quiet background melody during the social hour, jazzy sounds for the dinner hour and then all-out party tunes for dancing. All of this makes for a complete and memorable event.
All of us can bring to mind certain melodies that take us back to our childhood, elicit emotional feelings of love or just simply make us mellow and relax. These are all important to feel during a wedding.
Choose your musicians carefully and visit with them often about what you do and don't want to hear on your day. Listen to tunes on the Internet, your MP3 player, You Tube and more. Ask your friends and family their favorite tunes, then devise a play list that embodies the passion and love of the day.

Wedding Inspiration | First Look
One of our jobs as an event planner is to help you with your timeline and think about the flow of your day, and a "first look" with your photographer is sometimes helpful to make everything effortless. If you are unfamiliar, it's the moment you and your soon-to-be-husband/wife see each other for the first time before officially walking down the aisle. It takes a little bit of the pressure off, instead of having that moment in front of all your guests. One of our Preferred Vendors, Carrie Geno from Geno Photography, wrote to us about this very topic this summer here. While we know that traditionally, brides and grooms have avoided this, these adorable first look series may sway your opinion.

It has been a wedding two years in the making culminating in a wonderful day with friends and family. Real Weddings | Iowa City Fun
I am excited to share some wonderful pictures that my workers took of one our weddings in Iowa City. We are in eastern Iowa quite a bit and love the venues, vendors and clients that we work with in this part of the state. This particular wedding was a labor of love and it shows. My crew is amazing!
We had so much fun styling this wedding; every detail counted!
Ubetts Rental and Design funished the furniture, linens and rentals, cynwhd b designs provided the flowers and Special Events was in charge of the planning, design direction and room flow. Peach and Gray is such a beautiful color combination, how can you go wrong?

Here are some wedding planning tips that can help make your day as perfect as possible.
1. Before diving into the planning process, take some time to think about how you would like the day to flow. What do you want to see? Smell? Hear? Taste?
2. Every detail counts when it comes to invitations. They set the entire tone for your day. They will let your guests know when, where, what, how and why. Choose carefully.
3. Remember that when it comes to your budget, sometimes less can be more. Use your wedding dollars wisely.
4. Choose your centerpieces with a discerning eye. Not every table has to be the same. Keep the immediate elements similar, but let your style shine. Give your guests something other than a rose bowl, mirrored tile and 3 votive candles to look at. Tell them a story about the two of you.
5. Choose a wedding dress that compliments your body type, not something that is the latest "rage." If you look good, you will feel good and if you feel good, so will your guests.
6. Use the food to show off your style and personalities. Create a menu that is delicious and inventive. Don't be afraid to ask your caterer to work with you on creating a wedding feast that your guests are sure to love.
7. Keep your guests wondering what will happen next by introducing something new every 30-40 minutes. The entrance, the food, a dance, cutting of the cake, different location, different scenery, different stations, different dress, change the lighting, the mood of the music, etc.
8. Make sure that each guest knows how special they are to you. Don't forget to thank them for sharing your day with you. Treat your guests as you would like to be treated!
9. "Don't sweat the small stuff " - truer words have never been spoken.
10. Enjoy the planning process; every aspect, every tasting and every memory. This will never happen again, so treasure these times together.

Snow, Snow, Snow!
It is snowing like crazy here - 14" so far and counting!
It is a good day to hunker down and get lots of work done. In theory, that sounds great, but then reality hits and when your sweeties are home, no one feels like working and its time for the fireplace, baking cookies, reading a great book, any number of things that make sunggling up the priority. I have to confess that having some time with my family without the hustle and bustle of the world is nice.

I have to confess that having some time with my family without the hustle and bustle of the world is nice.
Snow days are a lot like the engagement process, you have to make time for each other during the numerous projects of wedding planning. Remember that your fiance should be your best friend, so spending time together should not only be fun and relaxing, but necessary for re-connecting. See, that fireplace really does work some magic!

Housekeeping rules
Here are some housekeeping items that brides will want to take note of:
1. Make sure that all vendors are paid in full prior to your wedding date. We don't like having to hound you on the day of your wedding or calling you after the fact. We really dislike the money issue.
2. Make sure that you bring something to take your left over cake home in unless previously worked out with your cake baker. Most venues really don't like having to throw away your cake if they know you would like to keep it. Don't forget to let them know about the top layer - save or serve?
3. Make sure to e-mail or send a copy of your wedding day timeline to all of your vendors the week before your date. Florists want to know when you are starting pictures so that we are not late; DJ's like knowing if you are performing a special dance, Photographers want to know if you are leaving the ceremony right after or taking more pictures. Your vendors are just like you with respect to your wedding day - surprises are not something we like having to deal with if we don't need to.
4. Make sure that your DJ or band leader knows how to pronounce your last name. It is always nice to be introduced as the correct couple!
5. If you would like your guests to dress a certain way, please be a little more specific on your invitations. If you don't mind khakis and Hawaiian shirts with flip flops, then you are fine. If you do, then let them know. Guests don't like to be made to feel uncomfortable.
6. Make sure to go through the order of service with your officiant and bridal party members at the rehearsal or before. It is bad form to all to decide who walks with whom one minute before the ceremony.

My blogging posts have been down. I think that I am back up to speed, thanks to figuring out the ways and means of the internet.
We had a wonderful wedding last Saturday. The couple was adorable as you will see from some of their pictures. They hired us to help with the flow of the day, to take away stress from the family, and to be there "just in case." -- Something that we do best!
